Automotive Electronics
Most early vehicles used a 6 volt positive ground up to the mid 50’s. The vehicles after this time period changed to a 12 volt Negative ground. When restoring or using an older Vehicle on the street, it is important that an inspection of the wiring harness is done to check dry and bare core wires which could cause fire and damage to the driver, passengers and the car itself when the wire contacts body parts or chassis. Wiring harnesses are usually available in original style or contemporary style. Old Radios can be converted and made with modern without changing the vintage appearance. Six volt systems can also be converted to a 12 Volt system by changing to 12 volt bulbs, changing the 6 volt generator to a 12 volt Alternator and the installation of voltage converters to 6 volt components. We do this work.
Manual and Automatic Transmissions
We can service and reseal most manual transmissions and check and or replace bushings in linkage for a smooth and trouble free ride. Automatic transmissions like BorgWarner Hydro Matic and other makes can be rebuilt in house. Drive shaft universals should also be inspected for excess play and driven to test the balance of the shaft.
Air Cooling system
Air conditioning in most early vehicles were not unavailable through the manufacturer. Today Air conditioning is available on most cars that have a 12 volt system. There are many retro-modern systems that can be fitted in your vehicle to provide a comfortable ride on a hot summer day. Another option is “260 air conditioning “. Roll down 2 windows and drive 60MPH.
